About the Customer
The customer is a leading private hospital group in Indonesia operating a network of hospitals and healthcare facilities across multiple cities. The organization provides comprehensive healthcare services and relies on digital platforms to support patient services, hospital operations, and coordination between branch locations.
As part of its digital transformation journey, the customer is focused on improving platform availability, performance, security, and operational resilience to ensure consistent healthcare service delivery while supporting continued business expansion.
Customer Challenge
The customer operated a mission-critical web server hosted on a legacy Virtual Private Server (VPS) that functioned as a central platform for managing hospital services across multiple branches. As the organization scaled, several critical challenges emerged:
Limited Scalability – The VPS infrastructure could not reliably handle increasing workloads driven by business expansion.
Single Point of Failure – The absence of a multi–Availability Zone architecture exposed the platform to high availability risks.
Insufficient Disaster Recovery – No disaster recovery mechanism existed to meet strict business continuity requirements.
RTO/RPO Constraints – The hospital required a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 1 hour and a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 15 minutes, which could not be guaranteed with the existing setup.
Operational Performance Risks – CPU and RAM utilization needed to remain below 85% to ensure consistent service delivery.
Security and Governance Gaps – The legacy environment lacked centralized monitoring, threat detection, and audit logging.
Without modernization, the customer faced growing risks of service disruption, performance degradation, and governance challenges that could impact critical healthcare operations.
Partner Solution
PT Innovation Cloud Services (ICS Compute) worked closely with the customer to design and implement a resilient web platform architecture on AWS, with a primary focus on improving availability, disaster recovery readiness, and operational visibility.
The solution was deployed in the AWS Asia Pacific (Jakarta) Region to meet latency and data residency requirements.
ICS Compute began by migrating the existing web platform from the legacy Virtual Private Server environment to Amazon EC2 using AWS Application Migration Service (AWS MGN). This approach enabled a highly automated lift-and-shift migration while minimizing downtime and reducing operational risk.
A dedicated Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) was designed with a layered network architecture that separates web, application, data, and staging tiers. The architecture spans multiple Availability Zones, allowing workloads to operate across fault-isolated data centers and eliminating single points of failure. Internet connectivity is provided through an Internet Gateway, while administrative access is tightly controlled to limit exposure.
To address business continuity requirements, AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) was implemented to provide continuous block-level replication of the production web server to a secondary recovery environment. Replicated instances remain in a standby state and are launched only during disaster recovery events. This design supports the customer’s Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 1 hour and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 15 minutes, and is validated through failover readiness testing.
The production environment runs on Amazon EC2 instances sized based on expected workload patterns, with a design target to keep CPU and memory utilization below 85% under normal operating conditions. This sizing strategy provides sufficient performance headroom while maintaining cost efficiency.
For operational visibility, Amazon CloudWatch is used to provide centralized monitoring. ICS Compute implemented custom dashboards displaying key production metrics, including CPU utilization, memory utilization, and disk utilization, enabling the operations team to proactively monitor system health.
From a security and governance perspective, Amazon GuardDuty is enabled to continuously monitor the environment for potential threats, while AWS CloudTrail records authentication events and API activity to support auditing, compliance, and forensic analysis. Automated daily backups are also configured for production workloads to support data protection and recovery readiness.
